HLB Blog Party, Giveaway and Guest Post #2 ~ Who’s Your Date?

hlbparty#2
hlbparty#2

Hi all, Alyssa just taking a second here to welcome you to Day 2 of my Blog Party, where it’s all about who your date is!  Do you have a favorite character whether it be hero or heroine?  What about favorite all-time couple?  Is there one character that you wouldn’t mind partying ‘Til the World Ends’ with?  Well, I want to know who and if you tell me you could win a fabulous prize!  Today Erika @ Badass Book Reviews is guest posting and telling us all about who her favorite characters are – they just so happen to be mine as well ;)  Hopefully, if you haven’t tried this series, you’ll run to your nearest series and buy the first book and become just as hooked as we are!

This is my very first guest post, and I couldn’t be happier that I get to write at Hesperia Loves Books!

Alyssa is someone I count as a good friend. It’s funny, we met online at an author’s forum {Karen Marie Moning} and we were moving in the same circles. Then we became friends on Goodreads, then we chatted through email, then Google chat, and finally on the telephone. I wish she lived closer to me, so that would could do stuff together in person, rather than through the internet, but what can you do? She lives in Georgia, and I live in Connecticut. Such is life. However, I do plan to visit her in the dirty south, once my littles are a wee bit bigger and I can leave them all with my husband :evil grin while rubbing hands in glee:

Now, the purpose of this post; Alyssa wanted to highlight some favorite characters in the fictional world, and I wanted to highlight one of the most fantastically written marriages in the futuristic world of IN DEATH by J.D Robb. If you live under a rock, you still might have heard of Eve and Roarke…Only the most awesomely badass couple to ever be penned. Seriously.

Eve Dallas has been through a world of shit the likes most females; and likely most males; ever will. She made herself into one of the top Lieutenants in the NYPSD, and is the biggest hard-ass, ball-busting, ass-kicking heroine I have ever encountered. That includes Kate Daniels, who is my number two. She might overtake Eve someday, but Eve has 30 books on Kate, and has blasted a world of hurt on many a thug, villain and even taken down some politicians. She also has Roarke.

David Gandy as Roarke

Roarke owns 51% of the world in 2058-2060. He picked himself up from the slums of Dublin and turned himself into the richest man in the world. He can kill you with his smile, and his bare hands. He has the body of a swimmer and the face of an Angel, all wrapped up in custom-made and tailored Armani. He also gets Eve. Having had a shitty childhood himself, Roarke often found himself on the wrong ends of his fathers fists. I love him and Eve together.

Eve is a real woman. She has a real body and very real issues and flaws. She is fiercely loyal, stubborn
and despite the shit she endured at her own fathers’ hands, she has the capacity for compassion and love.

Eve and Roarke have one of the most real marriages written I have ever read. Sure Roarke is richer than Scrooge and could surely swim in his own money vault, but he has a down to earth mentality. He doesn’t just live for the next buck. They fight, they bicker and argue, they have really hot and steamy make up sex, and are so damn awesome to watch. It was great in the first two books watching Eve flounder with the Love Roarke felt for her, but over the course of two years and thirty books, she has finally accepted that she deserves the love and can reciprocate. They would do anything for each other.  ANYTHING.

It’s the only series on the market, that has not lost steam. The characters grow. They struggle, there are fights, and realizations. There are some heartfelt and awful moments. There are some really creepy villains, and some funny villains. There are many things that you could actually see happening in the future that is not that far off.

If you look under the urban dictionary of ‘kick-ass’ you will see a picture of Eve and Roarke smiling at each other while slyly thinking of ways they can kick your ass.

So, now that you know who we love, we want you to tell us your favorite!  Leave a comment telling us who that favorite character that you’d party with is.  Then fill out the Rafflecopter widget below for your chance to win a paperback copy of Memory In Death.

OK peeps, I’m sorry, <–This is Erika, I tried to add the Rafflecopter widget and it’s not working. You can call me inept today, it’s OK. Alyssa is at work and can’t fix my mistake, and neither can I for some odd reason (It’s not like I’m new to blogging OR rafflecopter!) But for some reason I can’t get it to work!

I’m sorry! I think because of my mistake maybe I’ll give away two books.. what say you? Memory in Death by J.D Robb and The Other Side Anthology by J.D Robb featuring Ghost Stories by her and other authors!

I read to save my sanity, plain & simple. I am a married mother of 3 (2 of which are teenagers, yay me!) who needs an escape from the eye rolls, attitude and day to day drama that comes along with raising teenagers. Without books, I would be medicated ;)

One of my favorite book characters is Burke from the series by Andrew Vachss, I would love him to be my date, but I think he would be terribly antisocial :) Thank you for the fun.

Ok, I am SO NOT trying to suck up to win this thing. But my favorite character in a book is either Eve Dallas (as a heroine) and Rhage (as a hero from BDB). Eve is just tooo bad ass! I wish I were her!

My favorite couple is Mac and Jericho Barrons. I love how their relationship changed and was so challenged through out the series. I have only read the first 5 or 6 In Death books and I do love me some Eve and Roarke. I need to finish this series. I’m sure my mind will be changed to them soon though.

Guess I have been under a rock to not have heard about this power couple, the authors name is familiar but that’s about it. So nice post Badass, my TBR pile has grown and is grinning at you. =)

My fave couple is Mac and Barrons, impossible to top. And I can’t get enough, eventually they will smooth out each others rough spots but the process to get to that point will sure be one he’ll of a ride!

OMG Lexi, move the In Death series to the top of your TBR pile! It is amazing & written by Nora Roberts, using a.pen name. Don\’t let the # of books in the series deter you because once you start reading, you will fly through them! Let me know what you think once you start, I would love to hear it ;)

Lexi: Glad to know I am not alone… I have not read/heard of this series. *hands over face* My date to the party would be Julian Darcangelo from Pamela Clares' I-Team series. (Fabulous series BTW). He is my date because he is so darn sexy and I would be the envy of the party!!

  6.

Ok, mine is a bit esoteric but Skriker from the black Dog and Rose series is my perfect date. Half demon, tatted and with a forked tongue, just too sexy for words.

Ok…since I am currently reading Larissa Ione's Demonica series, I am going to have to bring a demon to the party. I am totally loving the Semis brothers (E, Shade, Wraith, Lore) and I love Ares from ETERNAL RIDER too. If I can only pick one, I would have to go with Shade.

Hope you'll swing by my blog sometime :)
