About Hesperia Loves Books

I’ve been a book reader all my life and a few years ago I started an account on Goodreads and fell in love.  I’ve met so many friends and received SO many book suggestions from that site and it has really been the jumping off point for my reading addiction.  After reading and reviewing quite a few books I decided that I wanted a place of my own to keep up with those review & thoughts.  I also had started visiting a few other blogs and was really beginning to like the blogging community as a whole.  Just the fact that I could enter giveaways and get extra entries by posting the contest info on my blog blew me away!  So on 5/24/2010 Hesperia Loves Books was born and I haven’t looked back since.  Since starting the blog I have grown tremendously.  I didn’t even know what HTML & CSS were in 2010 much less how to code, but I do now, and it has become one of my favorite things to do.  I recently made the change from a Blogger hosted site to a self-hosted WordPress site and I LOVE IT!  That was one of my long-term goals as a blogger and it is such a feeling of accomplishment to have succeeded.

I am a mother of 3 (20, 17 & 11) who has a serious addiction to reading and would probably be on medication if it wasn’t for that addiction. I used to love to read as a child & teenager but when I got married and had young children I just didn’t have the time or the energy. In January 2009, I picked up a little book called Twilight and the rest is history, I haven’t stopped reading since lol! I devour pretty much anything Contemporary Romance, PNR, Urban Fantasy & Erotica.

I’m 27, living in Wicklow in Ireland (about an hour outside of Dublin). I am a science graduate who decided, when the economic downturn happened, that I would retrain as a legal secretary and currently, I am working in a Stockbroking firm in Dublin by day! Funnily enough I LOVE my job and it gives me more time for reading than science did.

By night and in my spare time, I read everything and anything that I can get my hands on. Romance, UF, YA and Fantasy to name but a few of the genres that I will read. Karen Marie Moning and J. R. Ward are amoung some of my favourite authors. My new best friend at the moment is my Kindle, but I still love to get into a good paperback and to be honest there is nothing quite like a good cup of coffee and a browse through the book shop. Any bookshop is my happy place, just being amoung all the new pretty books who are silently and patiently calling out to be read, savoured and loved.  I just wish that I had enough time to read them all!

KJ

Hello, I’m KJ (aka Kim) and I’m a book addict…I remember the first book I read entirely on my own was “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” by Robert Heinlein when I was about 8 years old and I’ve been hooked since. While jumping in and out of sci-fi and fantasy most of my life, I’ve read in many genres and have been sidetracked for a couple of years now by romance genres — historicals, futuristics, contemporary only if there are paranormal or psychic elements. There are so many authors I love to read that I can’t list even half here, but my all-time favourites are JRR Tolkien, Jane Austen, and Karen Marie Moning. When not reading, I divide my time between working as a freelance graphic designer and being a wife, mother to a teenage daughter, and co-leader to a Girl Scout troop of 11 teenagers.

I am a southerner, a wife, a mother, and I am obsessed with reading books that makes my heart do a pitter-patter and flip-flop, my lips sigh, and my eyes shed a tear.

I love books that give me the feeling of being in the eye of an emotional tornado. Surrounding myself with characters that are at times very human, struggle with their own feelings; compassion, stupidity, honor, self-worth and pride. I may “gush” about a book and share tidbits and emotions; however, I will not totally summarize the book for you, I will not tell you how a book ends, I will not take away the joy you are going to receive by reading the book. There is a difference in giving an opinion of a book and completely deflating the reader with too much information. I respect the authors and fellow readers too much to do that.  No spoilers from me y’all!  :)

Michel

I am a true southern girl. I was born and raised in south Florida and moved to Tennessee in 2001, where I currently reside. I attended college in south Florida and have had many different jobs throughout life. I have been a waitress, teacher, hair stylist, store clerk, and an independent bookseller. My current employment is as a domestic engineer and my salary is paid in books. I love my job and it’s many rewards.

Reading is my passion. I am not the kind of person that can sit through a full movie or television show. Give me a book and I am enthralled until the last page is read.

My main reading interests are in fiction. I love contemporary romance, erotica romance, romantic suspense, and paranormal romance. I do read outside of my main interest.

When I start a new book, no matter what the genre is, I have the attitude that this is going to be “good” book. I appreciate all the effort an author puts into their work and always keep an open mind. My book reviews are based upon the book itself. I do not give away spoilers and do not go into lengthy details. I do not dissect the book word for word or chapter by chapter. I base my reviews on plot, characterization, story flow, editing, grammar, and how I react to the story itself. I have respect for the authors and their works, no matter how I feel about the book itself and will always give a honest and fair review.
